This policy describes how the University of Michigan’s Weiser Center for Real Estate (WCRE) collects and uses information through studyrealestate.umich.edu, including its forms, directories, career board, and virtual assistant. It supplements the University of Michigan Privacy Statement. Other University websites and services may have their own privacy notices.
The information collected depends on the form or service you use. Required fields are identified on each form; other information is optional.
Please provide only information relevant to your request. Avoid including passwords, government identification numbers, payment card details, or unnecessary medical or other sensitive information. Remove location metadata from images you intend to publish, and avoid uploading documents containing unrelated personal information about yourself or others.
Website hosting, security, forms, and analytics services may collect your IP address, browser and device information, referring page, pages visited, search terms, dates and times, and interactions with website features. Form submissions can also include the source page, browser information, submission time, and associated user account where applicable. Our form settings currently permit storage of submitting IP addresses.
Restricted areas use University of Michigan sign-in. The website processes account identity and authorization information, such as your name, email, University identifier, and applicable roles or group membership, to authenticate you and determine access.
We use information to respond to requests; review applications and job submissions; administer events, treks, advisory board participation, and alumni activities; maintain directories and website profiles; arrange networking, mentorship, mock interviews, or office hours; communicate about activities relevant to your participation; accommodate needs you disclose; and operate, secure, troubleshoot, and improve the website.
Information submitted for a website profile or directory may be displayed to the audience of that directory or page. This can include your name, biography, headshot, education, professional information, and links or contact details included in the listing. Public pages can be viewed, copied, or indexed by others. Access to some directories and application review areas is restricted through sign-in and assigned permissions.
Approved job postings are published on the career board and may include the recruiting contact email you provide. Your submitter identity and email are also processed for review and workflow communications. Submit a recruiting contact address only if it is appropriate to share with job seekers. Job applications made through an employer’s external application link are handled by that employer under its own privacy practices.
The advisory board renewal form asks whether you are willing to be contacted about sharing an engagement story; its notice states that WCRE will contact you before sharing the story publicly. Contact us to request a correction or removal of your website listing.
The website uses cookies and related technologies for sessions, sign-in, consent preferences, and analytics. Google Analytics, Google Tag Manager, and PostHog are integrated into the site. Analytics can include page views, navigation, device and browser details, approximate location derived from IP information, interaction events, and performance measurements. PostHog may also process session replay information when that feature is enabled, such as page content and interactions during a visit.
Use the Consent Preferences control on the website to review available cookie categories and change your choices. You can also block or delete cookies through your browser settings. Restricting cookies may affect sign-in or other functionality. Necessary cookies support essential services. Cookie preferences do not delete information you have already submitted through a form or a previously published listing.
The WCRE virtual assistant is powered by U-M Maizey. Questions and other content you enter are sent to the University’s AI service to generate responses. The service may process conversation history and technical logs. The ITS AI Services Privacy Notice explains its collection, service providers, and data practices. That notice states that data shared with ITS AI Services is not used to train the AI models made available through those services. Avoid entering unnecessary personal or confidential information. You can contact WCRE directly instead of using the assistant.
Information is processed by WCRE and University personnel and authorized reviewers or program partners involved in the activity you request. The website uses WordPress, Gravity Forms, and GravityKit to store and manage submissions and authorized views. Depending on the workflow, information may also be included in email notifications, administrative exports, Google Sheets or regional contact books, and the WCRE career board’s supporting job service.
Service providers support website hosting, analytics, communications, and AI services, including WP Engine, Google, PostHog, and the providers described in the ITS AI Services Privacy Notice. Public information is shared through the listings described above. U-M does not sell personal information. Information may also be disclosed to meet legal obligations or protect the rights, property, or safety of the University and others.
Our WordPress forms are currently configured to retain entries indefinitely unless they are removed through administrative action; automatic deletion is not configured. Copies in email, exports, connected services, and backups may have different retention periods. An expired or removed public job posting does not necessarily delete the underlying submission or review record. Applicable University recordkeeping requirements and legal obligations may require continued retention.
University sign-in, assigned permissions, and administrative controls help protect restricted information. No website or transmission method can guarantee absolute security. Contact us about access, correction, or deletion requests rather than assuming that clearing cookies or removing a public listing erases every copy.
You may browse public pages without submitting forms, omit optional fields, adjust cookie preferences, and contact WCRE to update a listing or communication preferences. Not supplying required information may prevent us from processing an application or request.
To ask about information associated with you, request access or correction, request removal or deletion, or raise a privacy concern, email um.realestate@umich.edu. Identify the form or service involved and the nature of your request; do not send sensitive documents in your initial email. We may need to verify your identity. Requests are considered subject to applicable law, recordkeeping obligations, and the rights of others. Additional information about privacy rights, including information for people in the European Union, is available in the University Privacy Statement.
Links and embedded content may connect you to other University units, employers, event or scheduling services, giving platforms, social networks, or media providers. Those services may collect information directly and have their own privacy notices. Review their notices before submitting information or interacting with their content.
This website is intended for students, alumni, professionals, and others interested in real estate education and activities. Children under 13 should not submit personal information through this website. If you believe a child has submitted personal information, contact WCRE.
We may update this policy as website services and practices change. The date at the top identifies the latest revision.
