The 2022 Future of Real Estate Competition concluded on October 20th. This year’s competition featured student representation from more than half U-M’s schools and colleges, with competitors studying 20 different academic disciplines.
In response to global, national, and local prioritization around sustainable development and affordability, we asked students to propose their vision for developing a site in Ann Arbor that meets critical sustainability goals meanwhile maximizing the mix of affordable and market-rate housing. Teams from across campus responded to the case by creating a website detailing their vision for the site. Each team gave its best for a chance to win a piece of a prize package of over $10,000.
Three undergraduate teams and three graduate teams made it to the finals to present their proposals to a panel of judges. Each team did a tremendous job, and the results were extremely close; with less than a point separating first and second place. When the dust settled, two winning teams were announced. Izzy Beshouri (PitE ’23) and Van Nguyen (BSArch ’23) took home first prize among undergraduate teams for their submission, Neighborhood Ecology. Anthony Bui (MURP ’23), Sophie Fitchett (MBA ’24), Chelsea Gaylord (MPP ’23), and Gabe Wingert (MEng ’23) were awarded first prize among graduate students for The Summit. Congratulations to all of our participants and thank you to our donors, advisors, and jury for making this competition possible!
